2012 Teen Dating Violence Poster Contest
The Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund is pleased to announce its 2012 Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Poster Contest for Rhode Island middle and high school students. Generally, the month of February is designated as National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. We are sponsoring this poster contest as a means of raising awareness of teen dating violence during the month of February. The due date for entries is April 4, 2012.
This year’s high school theme is “Warning Signs of Dating Abuse,” focusing on one or more of the warning signs. Given the alarming teen dating violence statistics, it is essential to educate teens about healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. Education provides our teens with the essential knowledge and skills necessary to determine if their relationships are healthy or abusive, and to help themselves and others. Education is a key factor in decreasing the incidence of teen dating violence. The Grand Prize winner will receive $500.00 and 2 Runners Up will receive $250.00 each. The winning poster will also be made available to Rhode Island high schools. Winners will be notified in April and we would like to present the prizes to the winners at their district School Committee Meeting or such equivalent.
This year’s middle school theme is “Qualities of a Healthy Relationship,” focusing on one or more qualities of a healthy relationship. Qualities of a healthy relationship can be found at www.cdc.gov/chooserespect and click on Healthy vs Unhealthy Relationships. Teen Dating Violence
Dating violence, like domestic violence, is a pattern of controlling, and abusive behaviors of one person over another within a romantic relationship. It can include verbal, emotional, physical, sexual, and financial abuse. It can occur in both heterosexual and homosexual relationships. It knows no boundaries and crosses all lines of race, socio-economic status, etc.
It CAN happen to ANYONE.
